Based on the stories we share, it would be easy to imagine that when a baby is born is random. In the U.S., however, weeks in September have 5 to 10 percent more births than weeks in January. Twelve thousand babies are born on a typical Tuesday compared with 8,000 on a typical Saturday. Sixty percent of babies are born during the day, between 6 A.M. and 6 P.M. And, 3.5 times as many babies are born at exactly 8:00 A.M., the most common minute to be born, than at the least common, 3:09 A.M.

Why Are so Many Babies Born around 8:00 A.M.?

Die besten US- Wahl Grafiken

Kaiser Fung:

There were some very nice graphics work published during the last few days of the U.S. presidential election. Let me tell you why I like the following four charts.

Data Visualization Chart Chooser Cards

Donald Trumps Balken

Donald Trump’s campaign is obsessed with favorable poll results, as evidenced by a graphic deluge on official social media channels. It’s a marked difference from their Democratic rival who has led polling averages throughout most of the campaign. And while neither candidate has a perfect record when it comes to spinning the data, only the Trump campaign has used a combination of cherry-picked polls and misleading data visualization to paint a cheerier picture of its prospects on Election Day.

Data Sketches - Ein vielversprechendes Projekt von Nadieh Bremer und Shirley Wu

One had just quit her job to try freelancing, and wanted to use the extra time to experiment and explore. The other wanted to create more actual projects; she had only made one standalone project in the past year that wasn’t a tutorial example. And while bemusing these situations one day in June, Shirley came up with the idea of a twelve-month collaboration.
